Father's Day

This day is to honor all Fathers. My Father was a WWII veteran. He spent His time on the Philippine Inland fighting the Japanese. As a small child he showed me pictures taken during leave time on another part of the Inland. I remember a picture of Him on top of a giant turtle in the Pacific Ocean. As the years passed I remember going up town to a restaurant for pie and a fountain coke while He visited with the people sitting around. As a wife I watched Him and my husband get to know each other and the lessons He taught my hubby. Then I watched Him with His grandchildren. He made a play ground in His back yard for the 6 of them and all the neighborhood kids. My girls remember those days. My Father died October 4, 2000 after He saw me go back to college. Sorry to say He did not see me graduate or 4 of His grandchildren.

These memories can to the surface of my mind while listening to a poem being read during our Church services. Maybe you have read this before but I want to share it. The Author is Unknown.

WALK A LITTLE PLAINER DADDY

"Walk a little planner, Daddy"
said a little boy so frail.
I'm following in your footsteps
and I don't want to fail.
Sometimes your steps are very plain.
Sometimes they're hard to see.
So, walk a little plainer, Daddy.
For you are leading me"

"I know that once you walked
this way, many years ago.
And what you did along the way
I'd really like to know.
For sometimes when I am tempted.
I don't know just what to do.
So, walk a little plainer, Daddy.
For I must follow you"

"Someday when I'm grown up.
You are like I want to be.
Then I will have a little boy
Who will want to follow me.
And I would want to lead him right
And help him to be true.
So, walk a little plainer, Daddy.
For we must follow you"
